Renovation works on runway 01/19
To maintain its runways in good condition, Brussels Airport will carry out renovation works on runway 01/19. The works are necessary to continue to guarantee safe air traffic in the future. To allow for these works, the runway will be completely closed to air traffic from 7 August to 1 September 2024.
Following a thorough analysis, Brussels Airport has decided to renovate the top layer of the asphalt of runway 01/19. The actual work will be carried out from 7 August to 1 September 2024 and is scheduled during the day between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. The full length of runway 01/19 will be resurfaced, except where it intersects with runways 25R/07L and 25L/07R. Locally, Brussels Airport will also replace the first underlayer, lay new cabling and install new gutters to improve runway drainage.
Works will exceptionally continue during the night from Friday 23 August until Monday 26 August. Due to the proximity of the works to the intersection with runway 25L/07R, runway 25L/07R will also have to close to air traffic between 11 p.m. on 23 August and 5.30 a.m. on 26 August. This means that during that time, only runway 25R/07L will be in use.
The works are scheduled in such a way as to minimise the impact on the PRS ( Preferential Runway System ) as much as possible. However, it will not always be possible to apply the PRS and delays in operations may occur.
The selection of runways in use is made by the air traffic services provider skeyes based on runway availability and weather conditions, with the primary aim of ensuring the safety of air navigation.
Runway use, wind conditions, any planned works and their potential impact on runway use are always announced on this website.
