Application of an asphalt protective coating on runways 01/19 and 25L/07R from 7 to 16 June

General

From 7 to 16 June 2022 Brussels Airport will be applying an asphalt protective coating on runways 01/19 and 25L. These works are planned in such a way to minimize the impact on the PRS as much as possible.

Brussels Airport will be working on runways 01/19 and 25L in June 2022. An asphalt protective coating will be laid down on parts of these runways between 7 June and 16 June. These works will protect and thus extend the life of the surface. Brussels Airport has planned the works in such a way that the impact on the PRS ( Preferential Runway System ) is avoided as much as possible.

Phasing of the works

In total a surface of 139,000 m² will be treated. First the rubber deposit will be removed from the parts of the runways being treated followed by the application of the asphalt protective coating.

The works will be carried out in the following stages:

  • Rubber deposit removal:
    • Tuesday 7 June from 09:00 to 19:00 (RWY 01/19)
    • Wednesday 8 June from 08:00 to 18:00 (RWY 01/19)
    • Thursday 9 June from 08:00 to 18:00 (RWY 01/19)
    • Friday 10 June from 21:00 to Saturday 11 June 05:59 (RWY 25L)

  • Application of the asphalt coating:
    • Sunday 12 June from 21:00 to Monday 13 June 05:59 (RWY 25L)
    • Tuesday 14 June from 09:00 to 19:00 (RWY 01/19)
    • Wednesday 15 June from 08:00 to 18:00 (RWY 01/19)
    • Thursday 16 June from 08:00 to 18:00 (RWY 01/19)

The works will be carried out according to the preferential runway system, except during the following periods due to the unavailability of RWY 25L:

  • Friday 10 June between 21:00 and 23:00.
  • Sunday 12 June between 21:00 and 23:00.

During these works the runway use will be determined as always by air traffic service provider skeyes based on various parameters, such as the preferential runway use determined by the federal government, the availability of take-off and landing runways and taxiways, the weather conditions and the traffic intensity. The safety of air traffic is always given absolute priority.

Information on real-time runway use is always available at https://www.batc.be/en/runways-in-use/current-forecast.  The status of the works is available at https://www.batc.be/en/works/ongoing-and-upcoming-works
